You’ve Lost Your Mind
Those are the words that I’m sure go through my husband’s head any time I get on my natural body products soapbox. If given the chance, I’ll tell anybody listening about the harmful effects of fragrances, deodorant, or really any body product.

Why Use Natural Body Products?
Conventional products have all sorts of yucky chemicals in it that I’d rather keep off of my skin. Starting with the antibacterial hype. Antibacterial soap kills the good and the bad bacteria. That means it is killing off your body’s natural defense system.
Our skin is our largest organ. It also absorbs the chemicals we put on our skin. So whether it’s lotion, hand soap, or astringent it’s important to avoid products containing chemicals that we don’t want in the body.
Parabens, sulfates, and phthalates are commonly used in conventional body products. None of them are good for your skin or your endocrine system. Do your own research before coming to any conclusions. After reading the first couple of articles on Google, I decided to avoid them.
Natural Body Roundup: Moisturizers
Lotion Bars
Go ahead and throw out your lotion because lotion bars will replace it. The bars are easy to make up and can be made in large batches and can be stored.
Whipped Body Butter
For those long winter months of extra dry skin, toss out the creams and welcome whipped body butter. My favorite part is that I can change the oils to fit my needs.
Foot Butter
Foot butter is the same idea as whipped body butter, but the oils that I use are specific for the dry skin and cracked heels that plague us all.
Beard Oil
You man can go natural too with some beard oil. Whether rimmed with straight edges or long and wild this beard oil will soften any facial hair.
Chapstick
You can replace your toxic filled chapstick with something a bit healthier. Seriously, you’re rubbing this stuff around your lips, so wouldn’t some all natural chapstick make more sense?
Natural Body Roundup: Soap
Foaming Hand Soap
Trust me when I say, it’s time to ditch your antibacterial hand soap. It sounds great, but you’d be much better off with some homemade foaming hand soap.
Body Wash
The fragrances and the chemicals won’t help banish the stink or get you clean. You’ll be much cleaner if you make your own body wash. Trust me it’s so easy. I keep the supplies under the tub, so that I can make it in the shower when I run out.
Face Wash
If you want your face to stop breaking out then stop using conventional face wash. You can add oils to the face wash for oily skin, acne, dry skin, whatever you need.
Hand Soap
If foaming hand soap isn’t your thing, try out some regular hand soap. It has all the good things and none of the bad
Natural Body Roundup: Personal Care
Facial Astringent
Growing up my dad always used Sea Breeze on his face. It is one of those smells that immediately bring back memories. Unfortunately, it has been replaced by a homemade facial astringent at my house. Unfortunately, for the company of course. My body and health are quite lucky.
Deodorant
If you are going to start making your own products, start with deodorant. The conventional stuff is so toxic. It has been linked to all sorts of health problems. Homemade deodorant couldn’t be simpler. Actually the most difficult part is opening the bottle, my thumb bears a scar.
Shaving Cream
Sure soap will work, but sometimes you need shaving cream to get the close shave you need. With swimsuit season coming, go ahead and make up some homemade shaving cream.
Zit Roller
We all have the occasional breakout. Hormones are nice that way. I once read that conventional creams and gels will get rid of zits, but will cause future ones. Now, I haven’t done the research to know if that’s true, but that would be a smart business strategy. That’s all I have to say about that. Go ahead and try out your own zit roller.
Armpit Mask
Armpits are a stinky topic that need to be addressed. An armpit mask will help you transition to a natural deodorant without smelling like onions the whole time.
Bug Spray
Summer is on the way. Do yourself a favor and switch to a bug spray made with essential oils. Protect your family from bugs and chemicals this year.
Natural Body Roundup: Oral Care
Tooth Powder
After switching to tooth powder, my sensitivity went away. After some digging, I found out that this isn’t an uncommon experience. So do yourself a favor and start making tooth powder. Your teeth can now enjoy the ice cream too!
Mouthwash
Conventional mouthwash can disrupt and harm the microbiome that lives in your mouth. Homemade mouthwash on the other hand will not. It allows your mouth to benefit from some essential oils, but won’t kill everything inside.
