Excellent Oral Hygiene
I have always been a stickler when it comes to oral hygiene. When I had my wisdom teeth removed, I cried because I couldn’t floss. Between the anesthesia and the painkillers I was an emotional wreck. I believe my mom finally convinced me it would be ok when she said, “Jesus didn’t floss and he still went to heaven.”
Despite flossing, regular brushing, and daily fluoride rinses my dentist told me I had a cavity and my teeth had become sensitive to temperature. Oddly enough my first “cavity” was right after his new building and was gone without treatment 6 months later. You can be the judge on that one.
It put me on a path of distrust. So I started looking at my natural oral care. Down the rabbit trail I went. Soon the fluoride was tossed in the trash with the mouthwash and toothpaste. I opted for a homemade mouthwash and DIY tooth powder. Plus a bit of oil pulling. It has been several years and my teeth have never been whiter, plus they aren’t sensitive anymore.

About DIY Tooth Powder
Calcium carbonate is the base of this toothpaste. It helps to whiten the teeth and remove any plaque.
I’ve used a mixture of essential oils to promote oral health. Peppermint oil makes this tooth powder taste good, but it also freshens your breath. It also helps kill the bacteria that causes cavities. Clove oil helps with toothaches and pain. Eucalyptus oil is a bacteria fighter. Wintergreen oil freshens your breath and is good for your gums. Oregano oil shows up anytime there is bacteria to fight off. It’s one of the best oils for the job. Myrrh oil helps reduce any inflammation in the mouth and prevent gum disease.

DIY Tooth Powder Recipe
Ingredients
¼ cup calcium carbonate
Peppermint essential oil
Clove essential oil
Eucalyptus essential oil
Oregano essential oil
Myrrh essential oil
Instructions
- Measure out ¼ cup of calcium carbonate into a jar.
- Add 10 drops each of essential oil to the calcium.
- Put a lid on the jar and give it a good shake.
Using DIY Tooth Powder
Get your toothbrush wet and put it in the DIY tooth powder. Give it a little tap to remove any excess. Then brush as you normally would. I find it drips out of my mouth more than toothpaste, so stay close to the sink. When finished rinse your mouth with water and try some homemade mouthwash.
