You Have Snake Hands?
Teaching preschool comes with many challenges, but one of them is staying healthy during cold and flu season. I take supplements and use an immune supporting roller to help keep me feeling my best. The most important thing I do is wash my hands. I wash after each diaper change, trip to the potty, before serving food, after serving food, before I eat, when we come inside, when I grab a sticky hand, and (my personal favorite) when somebody wipes their nose on my hand while holding it. Kids are gross, but they are so gosh darn cute. I think I spend half of my day washing hands whether they be my own or somebody else’s.
I mentioned one day that my hands felt like snakes to another adult. Of course, I was overheard by little ears. This led to an interrogation and a pat down. You have snake hands? Is the snake in your pocket? But snakes don’t have hands. Why did you take the snake’s hands? Are you going to give them back? Let me feel your snake hands! Why are your fingers so hard? And it continued for the duration of the day. Each time somebody remembered that Mrs. Morgan had snake hands the integration and pat down repeated itself.
The difficult part is that I hate using lotion. I like the feeling of clean hands with nothing on them. So this means they get no support during the day. At night, after a shower, I will use the DIY whipped body butter on my hands, elbows, and knees. I like to use some foot butter mixed with immune supporting oils on my feet too.
Another thing I do to help with my dry hands is use a sugar scrub. This removes all of the dry skin and smooths out the callouses. I keep a jar of it in the bathroom and in the kitchen to help remind myself to use it. Although it is not part of my daily routine, I use it on occasion. Check out the recipe here!

About the DIY Whipped Body Butter
I use jojoba oil in this recipe because it absorbs into the skin better than coconut oil. If you prefer coconut oil, expect a greasier product. I would reduce the amount by about half if using coconut oil.
Shea butter helps to moisturize the skin. I like the smell and texture of it more than I do cocoa butter. I don’t fancy chocolate smelling body products, but if that’s your thing be my guest. They are interchangeable in this recipe.
The vitamin E oil is a great moisturizer. You will see it in many commercially produced moisturizers as well. This helps to rehydrate the skin.
Arrowroot powder absorbs some of the oil to make the DIY whipped body butter less greasy. I don’t like to feel like a greased hog, so I add it to all of my DIY butters.
Lavender and frankincense essential oils are my go to oils when making anything for the skin. They are soothing to dry cracked skin. Plus they smell great, which is half the reason I like them.

Using the DIY Whipped Body Butter
This DIY whipped body butter is best used before bedtime. It will be too greasy to use before driving or touching your phone. I like to put on a pair of gloves after applying it liberally to my hands. This allows it to soak into my hands during the night, instead of soaking into the sheets.
Tips for Storing the DIY Whipped Butter
If your house is warm then this DIY whipped body butter will melt sitting at room temperature. During the summer months I keep this body butter in the refrigerator to prevent it from becoming a liquidy mess.
Sunlight causes essential oils to lose their effectiveness over time. Consequently, it is best to store them out of direct sunlight. I would suggest keeping this DIY whipped body butter in the vanity or medicine cabinet where it is dark.
In addition, it is best not to store essential oils in plastic. They will cause it to deteriorate. Therefore, I recommend storing essential oil products in glass. I love the way mason jars look and they are so versatile.

I am very excited to use this body butter. Thank you for sharing this amazing recipe. Also, If we add some natural essential oils like rosemary, lavender, or orange this should give a very cool aroma to it.
