Hairy Ape Woman
You know how most girls beg their moms to let them shave? Well that wasn’t me at all. Mine had to force me to start shaving. I remember sitting on the side of the tub with a leg covered in shaving cream. She patiently explained each step as we went. I so lightly “shaved” that leg, that no hair came off. In fact, I managed to shave off only the shaving cream. My mom was not impressed. I told her that I didn’t want to shave. Instead I would become a hairy ape woman and live in the woods by our house. Needless to say, I lost that battle. I’m neither hairy, nor an ape, nor living in the woods.

What’s in DIY Foaming Shaving Cream?
Aloe vera gel gives the DIY foaming shaving cream a thicker texture. This helps it cling to the skin a bit more. Plus aloe vera gel is great for your skin. It helps hydrate the skin, soothe razor burns, and heal cuts.
Castile soap is the key to success. It is a natural soap made from plants. You can read all about it on my post about castile soap. Castile soap is what will make this shaving cream foam.
Jojo oil moisturizes the skin. You can use any carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil, sweet almond oil, vitamin e oil, or even olive oil.
Essential oils are optional, but encouraged. They can add some beneficial properties to the DIY foaming shaving cream as well as make it smell nice. Stay away from hot oils like oregano, ginger, clove, and cinnamon. Peppermint, spearmint, and wintergreen are all soothing and cooling.

DIY Foaming Shaving Cream Recipe

¼ cup aloe vera gel
½ cup water
¼ cup castile soap

- Give it a good shake before using the DIY foaming shaving cream.

Using DIY Foaming Shaving Cream
Apply a small amount to wet skin and shave like normal. Rinse the excess away and dry off. Don’t forget to moisturize when you’re done. I like using whipped body butter. It leaves my skin feeling smooth.
The DIY foaming shaving cream should last for about a month if kept at room temperature in an airtight container.
