If you are looking to switch from a conventional shower gel to something more natural, then castile soap is about to become your best friend. I’ve finally found the best homemade body wash and it starts with castile soap. I’ve got a whole post about castile soap if you’re interested in why it’s so great.

Why Use the Best Homemade Body Wash?
Conventional body wash is filled with Parabens, sulfates, and phthalates. None of them are good for your skin or endocrine system. Parabens can mimic estrogen which causes problems with your hormones and have even been linked to breast cancer. Sulfates strip the oils from your skin. But they’ve also been shown to leave residue in the heart, lungs, and brain. Phthalates are linked to all sorts of problems including obesity, cancer, infertility, asthma, and behavior problems.
None of the ingredients in my homemade body wash contain any of those. There are no endocrine disruptors or harsh chemicals. Just natural ingredients that help clean and moisturize the skin.

Best Homemade Body Wash Recipe
Ingredients
32 ounces castile soap
1 tablespoon vitamin E oil
30 drops essential oils
Instructions
- In a large pump bottle mix together 32 ounces of castile soap, 1 tablespoon of vitamin E oil, and 30 drops of essential oils.
- Then put the lid on and give it a good shake to combine everything.
I like to buy lavender scented castile soap instead of adding oils myself. For men try 10 drops each of bergamot, cedarwood, and lemongrass. For kids add 15 drops of each lavender and chamomile. This is the perfect sleepy time blend.

Using the Best Homemade Body Wash
This homemade body wash will leave your skin feeling different than conventional body wash. That is because it doesn’t strip your skin of its natural oils.
Castile soap is concentrated. That means a little goes a long way. You won’t be needing as much as you normally do.
This works great for shaving as well.

I was very excited to try this till I saw how much Castile soap is. I know you’re saying it doesn’t take much and it goes a long way, but $30 is very expensive for people for sure. That’s not even counting everything else that needs to go into it.
I find Castile soap much cheaper at Walmart or TJ Maxx, closer to $15 for 32oz. One bottle lasts me over a month with a daily shower. I have tried diluting it and using it as a concentrate like in this recipe. I’ve found that either way I use the same amount of soap. Instead of diluting it in the bottle, I just use less of the concentrate in the shower.
I thought you have to dilute Castile Soap. The recommendation says so in the bottle.
Will leaving Castile Soap undiluted work for sensitive skin too?
I need to update this post, as this is a common question. I have used it undiluted on myself and even on my newborn without a problem. The water from the shower or bath will dilute it while you’re using it. If I dilute it in the bottle then I need 3 pumps, but if I leave it undiluted then I only need one.
