Are you looking to get away from aluminum filled deodorants? Unfortunately, most natural deodorants leave oily stains on your shirts and don’t leave you smelling that great. This all natural roll-on deodorant solves both of those problems. In fact, it works better than any traditional deodorant I’ve ever used. In With the Good
A couple years ago, I started to question the ingredients in everything. It started with body products, then cleaners, and now food. So consider this a warning, once you start you can’t stop.
Ok, now that you’re ready to take a step down this slippery slope let’s talk about my decision to take the first step. It all started with reading the back of the shampoo bottle. I discovered lots of ingredients I couldn’t pronounce. After some Google searches, I found out that most of them were really bad for you. The spark of curiosity caught hold and there was no turning back. I have always been one to question things and research them until I am blue in the face. When I find a problem, I must also find a solution. Pretty soon I was buying essential oils and castile soaps. When I ran out of my normal products, I would replace them with all-natural products that I made myself.
After that, there was no stopping me. I made my husband crazy reading all the labels. I replaced the toilet bowl cleaner, dusting spray, mouthwash, lotion, and bug spray. When I bought anything at the store, I would stand there reading the labels for twenty minutes before making a decision. He was patient, but sometimes I thought he wanted to throw something in the cart and move on.
Some of the changes were more difficult than others, but they eventually became the new normal. For example, castile soap makes my skin feel weird. At first it really bothered me, but now I barely notice. Another example was the smell of clean laundry. I love the smell of clean laundry, so I found an essential oil blend to use on the wool dryer balls to replace that smell. I still have a few things left to replace, but over time I’ve slowly learned how to clean without toxic chemicals.

About the All Natural Roll-On Deodorant
Magnesium hydroxide is the magic ingredient in this recipe. It is the active ingredient in milk of magnesia as well. This helps control odors. In fact, if you are sensitive to baking soda, you can leave it out because the magnesium will cover your smells. But wait there’s more! People tend to be low on magnesium. Fortunately, it can be absorbed through the skin. So not only will it be keeping your stink away, it will also be providing your body with some much needed magnesium.
Witch hazel is a natural astringent. This means it tightens your pores. It can also help with any skin irritation or infection. This can be particularly important for those of us that shave their armpits.
Arrowroot powder and baking soda help to fight off odors and absorb sweat. Although this all natural roll-on deodorant is not an antiperspirant these ingredients can help a bit.
Aloe vera gel is soothing to the skin, which is great for after a shave. It also helps to thicken this mixture just a tad.
If you are still having a hard time with odors after switching to a natural deodorant, try doing an armpit mask a couple times a week. It helped me get over the initial hump when I finally made the switch.
All Natural Roll-On Deodorant Recipe
Ingredients
2 teaspoons magnesium hydroxide
2 tablespoons arrowroot powder
¼ cup witch hazel
2 tablespoons aloe vera gel
2 tablespoons baking soda
¼ cup water
20 drops essential oils
Instructions
- First combine two teaspoons of magnesium hydroxide with a quarter cup of water. Distilled water is the best because it will prevent bacteria and mold growth longer.
- Next add a quarter cup of witch hazel, two tablespoons of arrowroot powder, and two tablespoons of baking soda. Mix these together really well. I found a fork or whisk to work best.
- Then add in two tablespoons of aloe vera gel and 20 drops of essential oils. I’ve listed our favorite blends down below.
- When everything is well combined, pour it into a large roller bottle. I use 50 mL rollers. Now you have it! This recipe filled four roller bottles. I keep one in the bathroom and the extras in the fridge. This will keep them from growing mold or bacteria before I can use them up.
All Natural Roll-On Deodorant Blends
Lavender
When in doubt, use lavender. This is my favorite because it is simple and smells great. Add 15 drops of lavender essential oil and 5 drops of frankincense essential oil. Lavender soothes the skins and smells great. Frankincense is great for your skin, so I always add it to my skin care products.
Mountain Man
This blend smells woodsy and more manly. It kind of reminds me of a Christmas tree too because of the pine. Add 10 drops of pine essential oil, 5 drops of cedarwood essential oil, and 5 drops of camphor essential oil.
Fresh and Clean
This blend smells fresh and a bit like citrus. I would recommend it for women, instead of men. The lavender and orange make it a bit too feminine smelling for most men. Use 10 drops of orange essential oil, 5 drops of lavender essential oil, and 5 drops of tea tree essential oil.
Be a Man
This is my favorite manly blend. It smells nice, but also masculine. Add 7 drops of cedarwood essential oil, 5 drops of bergamot essential oil, 4 drops of frankincense essential oil, 2 drops of lavender essential oil, and 2 drops of vetiver essential oil.
