The Struggle of the Switch
Change is never easy, especially in our house. As a little girl I would cry when I got new glasses, even though I knew they were exactly the same as the last pair. Although I no longer pitch a fit, I still prefer things to stay the same. My husband is no better than I am. He was so upset at the idea of a dog, he almost pulled his beard out.
After learning about the effects that chemical cleaners have on our bodies, I was ready to welcome change. If it had been up to me, I would have tossed out the disinfecting wipes and toilet bowl cleaner immediately. My husband wasn’t ready to dive in though. He can’t stand the smell of vinegar, so he struggled with many of my natural swaps. Eventually I found other recipes and we finally made the switch. Slow and steady as it was.

Why Switch to Natural Cleaning Products
The main draw to natural cleaning products is their lack of harmful ingredients. The warning label on conventional cleaners should be enough to scare you off. Many contain known carcinogens and endocrine disruptors. Then we wonder why we are so sick. Seriously, go grab a bottle and read the warning label. This is why I decided to switch to natural cleaning products. I feel better knowing that everything in my cleaning cabinet won’t make me sick down the road.
If you aren’t worried about your health, maybe money will change your mind. The cost of cleaners is outrageous just like everything else these days. Many of the homemade cleaners use the same few ingredients. Luckily these ingredients don’t cost much in comparison to what you would spend on conventional cleaners. You’ll save your health and your money by making the switch.

How to Switch to Natural Cleaning Products
Toe Dip
If you are thinking about making the switch to natural cleaning products, but it feels overwhelming, then the toe dip method is for you. Pick one cleaner to start making each month. Write it on the calendar so that you’ll stick to it. By the end of the year, you will have replaced 12 toxic cleaners. I’d recommend starting with the ones you use most often. A good multipurpose spray is always a good place to start.
Wade In
If you like the idea of natural cleaners, but don’t want to waste the conventional products you already have, then the wade in is the method for you. As you run out of a cleaner, replace it with a natural one. This is how I made the switch to natural cleaning products. It didn’t take long for all of my cleaners to be as clean as my home.
Head First
If you are certain that natural cleaning products are the way to go, then jump in head first. This is for the brave. Toss out everything in your cleaning cabinet and refill it with natural products. From the laundry soap to the window cleaner you’re going to switch it all out. Give yourself a weekend to make the switch. Make sure you have all of the spray bottles and ingredients you’ll need to overhaul your cleaning life.
