The Annual Sinus Infection
Every year, I come down with a sinus infection. At least once if not more. It happens in the spring during allergy season. As if on a schedule my nose starts to run and then that deep congestion that leaves me breathing through my mouth sets in. It’s wonderful. In the past, I have gone to a doctor for some antibiotics and nasal spray. Between that and a daily dose of allergy medication, it would eventually clear up.
Then I became interested in herbal and natural remedies. I realized that maybe the antibiotics weren’t as good for my body as I thought. This year I went into the winter prepared. And by the time spring allergies rolled in I was prepared!

Sure enough, I came down with something. My nose was rendered completely useless and I’d developed a cough. Unfortunately I was not able to take off work, so I had to figure out how to carry on. I started by using a sinus roller, which offered some help when I was still able to breath a bit through my nose. Then I tried a neti pot and that helped, but not enough. I decided to see if my trusty stash of herbs could help.
I boiled the water and steamed my face in mullein. My sinuses began to clear and I was able to breathe normally. Even my cough improved. I continued with the mullein steam and sinus roller. Plus I increased my dose of elderberry syrup. Soon enough I was feeling better.
Several others at work came down with the same thing. They treated themselves with conventional medicine. While I was feeling better after 48 hours, they were down for a week or more. This boosted my confidence in the herbal remedies I had prepared. Plus I had proven to myself that they actually worked.

About the Oils in the Sinus Roller Bottle for Congestion
Eucalyptus essential oil is probably best known for its ability to open your airways. It acts as a decongestant, which is what brings that immediate relief when breathing it in with a stuffy nose. It is used in many over-the-counter medications for congestion. Avoid contact with the inner ear, eyes, and sensitive skin. Do not use eucalyptus if you have estrogen-dependent cancer or are pregnant. It is not safe for kids under age 6.
Peppermint essential oil also helps to open the sinuses. It contains menthol which clears the congestion in your nose because of its impact on your mucus receptors. It is safe for children over six years old. Peppermint may cause skin irritation. Do not use it if you are pregnant or have epilepsy. Avoid contact with mucus membranes.
Rosemary essential oil has been known for its ability to support respiration. It is also an anti-inflammatory which can ease swollen sinuses. Avoid putting rosemary on your eyes, inner ears, and sensitive skin. If you are pregnant or nursing, consult with your doctor. It is safe for kids 3 years and older.

Using the Sinus Roller Bottle for Congestion
Apply the sinus roller bottle along your sinuses. An easy way to find them when congested is to press below your cheek bones. Then roll along the tender places. The same goes for your forehead.
This roller also works below your nose and on your chest. I do these right before bed to help me fall asleep.
During the day you roll on the inside of your wrists or on your palms. When you need some relief, bring your hands up near your face and take a deep breath.
Storing the Sinus Roller Bottle for Congestion
Sunlight causes essential oils to lose their effectiveness over time. Consequently, it is best to store them out of direct sunlight. This is why I keep my roller bottles in amber roller bottles and inside of a wooden drawer.
In addition, it is best not to store essential oils in plastic. They will cause it to deteriorate. Therefore, I recommend storing essential oils in amber or cobalt glass bottles.
