So Hot I’m Cold
This spring I got really sick. It was the worst I’ve felt in a very long time. Between strep throat and an ear infection, my fever was high and stuck around for a while. I don’t understand how kids do this every year or multiple times a year for some.
There are some basic things that you need to be doing when you have a fever. I’m going to go ahead and state them just in case you didn’t listen to your momma as a kid. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids. Water is great, but if that won’t stay down try Sprite or Ginger Ale. Sometimes with a fever you don’t feel like eating. Your body still needs energy though so try some bone broth or chicken noodle soup. Sleep as much as possible. Put your phone down and take a nap. Your body needs to rest so that it can heal.

Natural Remedies for a Fever: Essential Oils
If you wish to support a fever by warming up the body and increasing blood flow, try a roller bottle with cinnamon and ginger. Apply it to the bottoms of your feet and along your spine.
For those times when you are needing relief from the heat of a fever try putting some lavender oil on a cool washcloth. Place it on your forehead or neck for some relief.
Peppermint essential oil can also help to cool the body down. Making a simple peppermint roller bottle to apply to pulse points and the spine will provide some relief.

Natural Remedies for a Fever: Homeopathy
When a fever is mild and comes on slowly try Ferrum Phosphoricum. Typically these fevers are associated with feeling tired.
For high fevers with lots of sweating try Belladonna. You are going to feel hot and your cheeks may be flushed as well.
On the other hand if you have a high fever, but you’re not sweating try Aconitum Napellus. You may still feel hot, but the key difference is the sweat.

Natural Remedies for a Fever: Herbs
Whenever my husband or I run a fever, I always try to do a detox bath. The ginger in there helps to make you sweat and the epsom salt relaxes the body. I like that the ingredients are so simple that we almost always have them on hand. When cold and flu season strike, I make up a big batch to keep on hand.
There are several great herbs to try when you’ve got a fever. Herbal teas are the best way to take them because they also help you stay hydrated. Elderflower, yarrow, and echinacea are all good options. Catnip is gentle enough for kids to drink.
Colloidal silver is another option although it isn’t actually an herb. Taking a small amount will help your body fight off the infection that is causing a fever. It is an antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory.
