I Just Want a Bath
When I have a long day at work, don’t feel well, or just can’t function anymore I jump in the bathtub. I’ve been that way since I was a little kid. My mom would often come in to find me curled up on the floor of the shower sound asleep. My brother was even worse than I was and we eventually had a shower timer.
The warm water is the only way I can get warm when I’m chilled. When I’m stuffy the steam works wonders. That’s probably why I love the mullein sinus steam so much too. By adding a few simple ingredients, my bath turns into a detox to help my body fight off whatever bug I’m fighting.

About a Detox Bath for Colds and Flus
A detox bath is meant to open the pores to draw out the bad stuff. The last thing we would want to do is to use a soap with harsh chemicals or soak in unpurified water. Therefore I suggest using castile soap instead of chemical laden soaps. I’ve got a recipe for face wash if you are looking for an alternative. If you don’t have a whole home water purifier or a Berkey shower water filter, I suggest adding ½ cup of baking soda to the water as you fill the tub.
Epsom salts help relax the body. This makes it perfect for when your body aches during a flu. They also contain magnesium and help the body detox the bad stuff. Some claim it increases your white blood count, which is good when you are fighting off germs.
Ginger will cause you to sweat. Sweating is one way the body naturally detoxifies itself. It makes the water feel hotter than it actually is. Make sure you keep some water nearby and stay well hydrated.
Eucalyptus essential oil has anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-microbial properties. This makes it great for fighting off colds and flus. Plus it will help relieve any congestion or cough you might experience.

Detox Bath for Colds and Flus Recipe
Ingredients
2 cups epsom salt
5 drops eucalyptus oil
½ cup baking soda
1 teaspoon powdered ginger
Instructions
- First mix five drops of eucalyptus oil and 2 cups of epsom salt together. This will help the oil not to sit on top of the water. Allow this to sit while you run the bath water.
- Start a warm bath and add ½ cup of baking soda. I prefer to add the ingredients right under the faucet, so that they all get mixed in well.
- Next add in the epsom salt and eucalyptus oil mixture. Then add the ginger.
- Soak in the tub for at least 40 minutes. The first twenty allow your body to detox and the next twenty allow you to absorb the good stuff.
