Humble Pie and A Sore Muscle Roller Bottle
A couple of years ago, we did some landscaping around our house. This was before we owned a tractor, so everything was done by hand. We carried railroad ties, dug trenches, and moved gravel in a wheelbarrow. After several weeks my body was so sore, I didn’t want to get out of bed. I opened up the oil box to see what I had to help. So I mixed up the sore muscle roller bottle and put it on my back, legs, and shoulders. I found that it helped more than any muscle rub from the store did and it smelled amazing. It’s actually one of my favorite rollers as far as smell goes.
Something you may not know about me is that I’m a black belt. A few weeks ago at karate class we had to do a push-up and a sit-up for every year of age we were. While this was a fun game when I was about 9 it is not so much fun at 27 and the oldest student in the room. As it turns out, I’m not as tough as I used to be. My arms and abs were sore the next day. I ate some humble pie and used my sore muscle roller bottle.
This is one of those rollers that I always pack in the travel case, when we leave home. Something about not sleeping in my own bed makes my neck sore. I’m guessing it has something to do with age. Sore Muscle Roller Bottle Recipe
Ingredients
8 drops Sore No More
4 drops Frankincense
Instructions
- First put eight drops of Sore No More and four drops of frankincense to a 10mL roller bottle.
- Then top the bottle off with fractionated coconut oil.
- Finally put on the cap and give it a nice little shake.
Diluting the Sore Muscle Roller Bottle
This roller has a higher amount of essential oils because it is not intended for long term use. This means that the dilution is 5%. If you need something stronger, you can safely double the amounts and go up to 10%.
For children between six and ten or elderly adults a 1% dilution ratio is safe. To do so, use only 2 drops of Sore No More and 1 drop of frankincense. Another option would be to make a master blend of the oils and then use only 3 drops of the master blend in the roller bottle.
Using the Sore Muscle Roller Bottle
This roller can be applied to sore muscles. Roll a little on the sore spot, then massage it in. It can be used as often as needed. I like to use it right before bed. Sometimes I’ll even use it if I anticipate sore muscles in the morning. I’ve found it to work best when I get ahead of the soreness.
Storing the Sore Muscle Roller Bottle
Sunlight causes essential oils to lose their effectiveness over time. Consequently, it is best to store them out of direct sunlight. This is why I keep my roller bottles in amber roller bottles and inside of a wooden drawer.
In addition, it is best not to store essential oils in plastic. They will cause it to deteriorate. Therefore, I recommend storing essential oils in amber or cobalt glass bottles.
Other Ways to Relieve Sore Muscles
My go to for a sore back or legs is a foam roller. It is a log of foam that you roll on your sore spots. It feels amazing the day after a workout. Honestly, I use it just because it feels good with or without a workout. If you’ve never foam rolled trust me when I say it’s life changing.
Another is an epsom salt bath. Yes, I’m aware that I sound like a little old lady when I suggest this, but it works. I like to use the fizzing bath salts because it’s like a fancy bubble bath instead of a reminder that I’m not as durable as I used to be.
