Ms. Picky Loves Peanut Butter Dip!
When I was a kid, I was a super picky eater. I’m still picky, but I’m working on it. My mom was worried about the lack of calcium in my diet. Milk was a no go. Cheese was limited to grilled cheese, burritos, twist string cheese, and Cheetos. Therefore she had to be sneaky. For lunch she would slice an apple and pack peanut butter to dip it in. I knew that there was something else in the dip, but I had no idea what. It made it kinda crunchy, but not like crunchy peanut butter. Had I known, I probably wouldn’t have eaten it. Thinking about it, that’s most likely why she never told me what it was.
As a kid one of my favorite lunches was a dippy lunch. My mom would serve foods that needed dip. It was like a Lunchable only better. We would have carrots and ranch, apples and peanut butter dip, chicken nuggets and ketchup, and cookies and milk (another acceptable way to consume calcium in my child brain). These lunches were often served on the patio, so that we didn’t come inside in our wet swimsuits.
When I got married to Mr. Picky, I did the same thing my mom did to me. I packed a sliced apple and dip in his lunch box. All he knew was that he had an apple with peanut butter dip. Just like me, he loved it! After that he would request peanut butter apple dip in his lunch. If I send apples without peanut dip, he won’t eat them.

The Secret Ingredient
The secret, calcium-boosting ingredient is dry milk. It gives the peanut butter a calcium boost and a bit of crunch. The dry milk taste is hidden by the delicious peanut butter, hence the secret part. The crunch is mild, somewhat like a Crunch Bar.
My favorite way to enjoy this peanut butter dip is with apple slices. It is also good with pears, carrots, or right off a spoon. My husband now licks the container clean, just like me. People always ask what kind of dip I’m eating and wrinkle up their nose when I tell them. It’s a dip best tried not described.
