Homesteader Gift Guide
Before continuing I have a confession. I am a self proclaimed homesteader wannabe. Recently, we moved out of the city limits and now we have a few acres. I’ve been longing for the day when I would walk outside and not see the neighbors. Now my homesteader heart is longing for chickens, cows, a garden, and fruit trees. My husband continues to remind me to take things one step at a time. While I impatiently wait, I am reading books about all of the things I dream of doing. I am also mastering as many skills that I can in the kitchen and house. These homesteader gifts for men and women are perfect for all of those dreamers like me or those already in the thick of it. Homesteader hearts will appreciate these homesteader gifts for men and women.

Homesteader Gifts For Women
Soil Block Maker
Starting seeds is a chore, but the benefit is worth it. Around February, I get antsy to get back in the garden. I purchased this soil block maker, which allows me to make pods of dirt to start the seeds in. It is the perfect gift for any gardener. Seed starting just got a lot less expensive too!
Cast Iron
Every homemaker needs a good set of cast iron. For electric tops the enameled cast iron works well and won’t scratch the stove top. Gas powered stove tops will work with regular cast iron or the enameled stuff. Skillets and dutch ovens are basics for any kitchen. Keep an eye out for the more unusual finds like loaf pans or pizza pans too.
Nourishing Traditions
The book changed the way I see food and prepare it too. I believe it should be a staple in every kitchen. For anybody looking to learn how to cook or embracing homemade foods this is the book to read. I highly recommend giving Nourishing Traditions to every woman on your list this year.
Canner
Whether it be a water bath canner or pressure canner, the homestead woman will appreciate and use this tool. Some are intimidated by the pressure canner, so I would provide a canning cookbook to go with it. I love my water bath canner and have been looking at getting a nice pressure canner.
Craft Classes
Did you know craft stores offer classes? Give the gift of a new skill with a quilting, Cricut, or cake decorating class. Not only are these classes fun, but they give momma a moment to do something for herself with other adults.
Homesteader Gifts For Men
Leather Work Gloves
Nice gloves can make all the difference when working outside. A pair of nice leather gloves will stop blisters and protect a homestead man’s hands while he stacks wood, shovels dirt, or leads animals. I find men the most difficult to shop for, so I find practical gifts they would not splurge on themselves to be a safe bet.
Boot Dryer
This is a gift that will just make life a little happier. Nobody likes putting on wet shoes to go work outside. A boot dryer will blow warm air right into the boots to dry them out before heading back outside. Once the rest of the family sees this wonderful creation they may want one too.
Cooling Hat
My husband has requested a cooling hat several times in the last year. Driving around on the tractor in the middle of summer is quite hot. Whether your man is mowing the yard or enjoying a BBQ, he is sure to appreciate a cooling hat this summer. They come in all styles and colors.
The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Country Living
This book covers most any homestead question your man may have or skill he wishes to learn. It has everything from raising animals to disaster preparedness. It is written in a way that makes it useful for beginners and old timers alike. Whether he flips through it while enjoying his morning coffee or references it before starting a new project this is one book he is sure to keep handy.
Tool Bucket Cover
How is it that the tools are never close to the thing needing fixed? If your house is anything like mine, you are sure to find random tools left about. A drill on the table. A level on the dresser. I really don’t understand it, but I can help. This “tool belt” fits right over a five gallon bucket. Now all of the tools can be carried in to do the project and back out to the garage.
Homesteader Gifts For All
Coveralls
Coveralls are good for chores and sledding alike. Heck, sometimes I wear them when I’m just itching to get outside after being cooped up. A nice pair will last a long time and keep you toasty warm. They come in all sizes so the whole family can stay warm this winter.
Muck Boots
Once again this is a practical gift, but will be much appreciated by the recipient. Whether mucking stalls or jumping in mud puddles these boots will keep your feet dry and warm. They are built to last too! I’d go as far to say that they may be the only pair of shoes that will outlast a farm kid. Get the whole family a pair, so that you can all enjoy warm dry feet during chore time.
Boot Brush or Remover
Although mom will appreciate this gift the most, it is useful for the entire household. And as the saying goes, “Happy wife. Happy life.” Run your boots through this little contraption before walking in the door. It’s like a doormat, but it gets the whole boot. It will be the perfect addition to the mudroom or garage. Or just take them off completely with a boot remover. Both make great gifts though!
Headlamp
One can never have enough flashlights. In fact, it is a family tradition to give everybody a flashlight for Christmas. Headlamps are one of the best because they are hands free. This makes them convenient for chore time, power outages, and camping. Kids can use them to look for wolf spider eyes in the fallen leaves at night. Adults can too!
Wall Calendar
Lastly, its a wall calendar. Calendars for the following year come out around Christmas time. With so many designs and themes, there is literally one for everybody. It is a useful gift, but also shows that you pay attention to somebody’s likes. I get a horse calendar every year. As a kid, I would cut them up and use the old calendars as posters. Filling in important dates, like birthdays and anniversaries, is a personal touch. Plus it saves so much time for the recipient. Young kids enjoy marking days off. Grandparents appreciate the reminders of all the birthdays. It is an inexpensive gift that anybody can enjoy.
I certainly hope this Homesteader Gift Guide for Men and Women helps you mark everybody off your list this year. Or at least helps makes the shopping easier.
