Ranch is Not a Food Group!
I am not a sauce person. In fact, I didn’t even like ketchup until I was pregnant. My husband, on the other hand, needs sauce on everything. He puts ranch on pizza, chicken, burritos, and mozzarella sticks. For me, ranch is for dipping vegetables and seasoning potatoes. I always joke with him about being saucy because of how much sauce he puts on food.

Homemade Dry Ranch Seasoning Ingredients
Buttermilk powder is dehydrated buttermilk. I found it at Walmart, but you can also purchase it from Amazon or Azure Standard. If you can’t find any, then regular powdered milk is fine too. It will slightly change the flavor of the seasoning though. If you do use regular powdered milk instead, then I suggest using liquid buttermilk instead of regular milk to make it into salad dressing.
The herbs in this recipe are all staples at my house, so I like to buy them in bulk from Azure Standard. Once you start making your own seasonings you’ll find that you go through a lot more spices.
I’m a sucker for real salt as well. I keep pink himalayan or Redmond’s Real Salt on hand at all times. Salt makes everything taste better.
That’s it! Spices, salt, and buttermilk powder. No MSG, seed oils, or preservatives. So go ahead and dip everything in ranch dressing without feeling guilty.

Homemade Dry Ranch Seasoning Recipe

2 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon dill
1 tablespoon chives
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons parsley
2 teaspoons thyme
½ teaspoon pepper
Instructions
- Add 1 cup buttermilk, 2 tablespoons garlic powder, 2 tablespoons onion powder, 1 tablespoon dill, 1 tablespoon chives, 2 teaspoons salt, 2 teaspoons parsley, 2 teaspoons thyme and ½ teaspoon pepper to a food processor or blender.
- Then pulse the ingredients together for a few seconds to get a smooth powder. You can skip this step, but you may find your dip or dressing has chunks of spices in it. Store it in a jar in the fridge for up to 3 months.

Using Homemade Dry Ranch Seasoning
One packet of store bought is the same as 2 tablespoons of homemade dry ranch seasoning. So you can use it in any recipe calling for the packet.
We use the seasoning on potatoes. A bit of oil and ranch on the potato chunks makes for a quick and easy side dish. It pairs well with grilled meats of any kind.
Of course you can mix it into some greek yogurt, sourcream, or mayonnaise for a veggie dip. Use 1 tablespoon per cup of yogurt, sourcream, or mayonnaise.
If salad is more your style then add 2 tablespoons of seasoning, ¾ cup mayonnaise, and ¾ cup milk to a bowl and whisk it all together. If it’s too thick then continue to thin it out with milk until you get the consistency that you desire.
