Postpartum Hair Don’t Care
I’ve always had long hair. I do not enjoy styling it and it’s not a religious conviction. The truth is that I just really hate haircuts. My mom cuts my hair once a year in June and that is enough for me.
During pregnancy, my hair grew super fast. Enough that I actually needed a second haircut year. But now that I have hit 3 months postpartum that has changed. My hair is very dry and brittle. The tub drain is always clogged and the vacuum is always wrapped in my hair. I tried a flaxseed hair mask and it helped soften my hair significantly. With consistent use, I’m hoping to see less hair on the bathroom sink and more on my head.

Essential Oils for the Flaxseed Hair Mask
There are several options when it comes to essential oils for hair growth and health. You can add a total of 20 drops to the flaxseed hair mask.
Lavender will stimulate hair follicles and help blood circulation.
Rosemary helps with dry hair, split ends, and oily hair.
Tea tree will help prevent lice, so I like to add it to all of my hair products.
Cedarwood will promote growth, thickness, and strength.
Frankincense is really good for the skin and scalp, so I will usually add it as well.
Flaxseed Hair Mask Recipe
Ingredients
3 cups water
¼ cup flaxseeds
Instructions
- Bring 3 cups of water to a boil. Then add ¼ cup flaxseeds.
- Then reduce the heat and allow it to simmer for about 5 minutes. Stir occasionally to keep the seeds from sticking to the bottom of the pot. You will know it’s ready when there is a string of gel when you lift the spoon.
- While that simmers, stretch a nylon knee high over a measuring cup. Pour the gel into the nylon. Let it cool for 30 minutes to an hour. Then you can squeeze the gel out. You can save the seeds to put in smoothies or feed them to your chickens.
- Lastly, mix in your essential oils.
Using the Flaxseed Hair Mask
Once a week, massage the flaxseed hair mask into your scalp with your fingertips or a scalp massager. Then spread it down through the ends of your hair.
Put a shower cap on and let it sit for 20-30 minutes. When time is up, rinse it out with water and shampoo and condition as normal.
