It’s Natural
I’ve been on a mission to replace every cleaner in my home with something homemade and nontoxic. When I run out of a conventional product, I make something to replace it. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries to get it right, but not this time. I use this homemade wood polish spray on all of our wood furniture instead of Old English. And let me just tell you, it works.
My husband, Dalton, has built most of our furniture. It is gorgeous, but he didn’t realize how important sanding was at the beginning. So many of the pieces collect dust. My regular dusting spray didn’t seem to polish or condition the wood like it needed. So I started using Old English. That worked great, but then I wanted something natural. So I made up this little experiment and it worked!

About the Homemade Wood Polish Spray
Olive oil helps to remove the dust and condition the wood. This helps to make it look polished and clean. I’ve noticed that the more I use it, the smoother the wooden furniture becomes. This is especially true on those places that didn’t get sanded very well.
The lemon oil makes it smell like Old English, which is important for those of you that like things to smell clean. I’m on that list of people. Lemon oil also helps to sanitize the surface and remove any dirt.
Homemade Wood Polish Spray Recipe
Ingredients
2 cups olive oil
10 drops lemon essential oil
Instructions
- In a glass spray bottle, combine 2 cups of olive oil with 10 drops of lemon essential oil.
- Then tightly close the lid and give it a good shake. You should be ready to use your homemade wood polish spray now.
Using Homemade Wood Polish Spray
Before using this homemade wood polish spray, make sure to test an inconspicuous area. Do not use this polish on unfinished wood. It will cause a change in color if you do.
Spray a small amount of polish on the wooden surface. Use a microfiber cloth to rub in the polish and remove the dust. If you are worried about creating a greasy spot, try spraying the cloth instead of the wood directly. I do a combination of both depending on the piece of furniture. Rub until the wood is free of dust and has that nice polished look. If needed, take a clean cloth to wipe over it when you are done. Think of it like waxing a car.
Storing Homemade Wood Polish Spray
I suggest keeping the homemade wood polish spray in an amber glass spray bottle. This is because the lemon essential oil can cause a plastic bottle to deteriorate over time. You should also store it away from any windows. Sunlight can affect essential oils, which is why I keep mine in an amber glass spray bottle.
