There’s Ratios for Roller Bottles?
There are a lot of roller bottle recipes on the internet. Unfortunately they are not all safe. Essential oils are very concentrated and potent. That means without following the proper ratios for roller bottles they are not safe for use. This is especially important when making roller bottles for children or the elderly. But don’t let me scare you off! Oils are safe when used appropriately.

Ratios for Roller Bottles
Babies
Essential oils should not be used on or around infants under 3 months old. At 6 months old you can apply baby safe oils such as frankincense, copaiba, lavender, and chamomile. The ratio for 6 months to 2 years old is .5%. That is 1 drop of essential oil in a 10 mL roller bottle. To make a blend, mix the oils in a separate bottle then add one drop of the blend to the bottle.
Children, Elderly, & Faces
For children 2-10 years old and the elderly 1% is considered the safe ratio. This means 3 drops of essential oils in a 10mL roller bottle. This ratio also applies to anything that you plan to use on your face.
Everyday Use
For rollers that you plan to use on a daily basis 2% is safe. This applies to anybody 11 years of age and up. If you are following that math that would be 6 drops in a 10mL roller bottle. This would also apply to any body products or bath products.
Short Term Use
Sometimes you only need to use a roller for a short amount of time. This would be instances such as bug bites, rashes, pain, infections, scrapes, and sunburns. You can use up to 10% essential oils. That is 30 drops of essential oils in a 10mL roller bottle.
Essential Oil Safety
Not all essential oils are safe for all purposes or people. Some oils are hot oils, which means that they will burn if applied to the skin. Although they can be diluted and used on the skin, great care should be taken to avoid contact with the eyes.
Some people are comfortable with ingesting oils, but it is not considered safe.
Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should always talk to their doctor before using oils. Even my very holistic OB/GYN was strict on what oils I could use while pregnant.
Always check the age range on an oil before using it on or around your children.
