Playdough for Every Season
As a preschool teacher, playdough was part of my daily life. It was used to make dinosaur fossils, gingerbread men, cookies, pumpkins, and so much more. The kids loved it when I would provide a seasonal dough that was scented to match the season or unit. A new smell or new accessories is all it took to grab their interest again. Acrylic table scatter, beads, pipe cleaners, plastic jewels, and tiny animals were very popular accessories.

Customize No-Cook Playdough
This no-cook playdough recipe will be white and have a doughy smell unless you customize it.
Food coloring or liquid watercolors work well to color the dough. If you wish to make one color for the entire batch, then I suggest adding the coloring to the water. This helps it be more consistent throughout. But there is nothing wrong with adding it later. My students enjoyed making their own colors. I could add the finished dough to a bag with the coloring and they mixed it up themselves.
Glitter is also a great addition to the dough. Simple white glitter turns this plain dough into snow. Turquoise is great for mermaid dough and orange makes it look like the playdough fire is really burning.
Spices and oils can be added to create aromatherapy playdough or simply to enhance the experience. Lavender essential oil helps kids to relax. Orange and peppermint essential oils can be combined to increase concentration. Cinnamon and ginger makes the perfect dough for gingerbread men. Pumpkin pie spice is great for fall playdough.

Playing With No-Cook Playdough
Cookie cutters, rolling pins, and plastic knives are plenty to keep your little one busy with some no-cook playdough. But there are so many other options.
Sticks, rocks, marbles, and fake florals can be used to make habitats for little plastic animals or treehouses.
Beads, gems, and shells make great decorations on a playdough sand castle or mermaid.
The tiny candy garlands from Hobby Lobby can be cut apart to make gingerbread houses or decorate cakes.
The possibilities are endless with the imagination of a child. If you need some inspiration to get you started, look up playdough trays on Pinterest. You can find ideas for any season, theme, or interest.
