DIY Essential Oils Travel Kit

Are you planning to do some traveling this summer? Make sure you have the oils you need while you’re out and about, whether that be to the park down the street or the beach across the country. Be ready with this DIY essential oils travel kit.

Are You One of Those People Now?

For several years, I was an essential oil skeptic. After finding Revive and finally being able to afford some oils, I fell in love. I’m now a believer in essential oils and natural remedies despite what I may have said when I was younger. I use the immunity roller daily during the school year. In the summer when I need relief from bug bites, I reach for my oils. The same goes for a headache or allergies.

When I used to travel home to see my family, I would pack up my oils to take along. My brother came down to my bedroom one evening as I was filling the diffuser. He sarcastically asked, “Are you one of those people now?” complete with eye roll. I grinned and said of course. He poked fun at me, but my essential oil use has multiplied. Almost anything that goes on my skin is made from an essential oil.

One of my favorite things about using oils is the diversity. Each oil can help with a myriad of troubles. Sunburn? Lavender. Can’t sleep? Lavender. Itchy rash? Lavender. I’ve yet to find anything else so versatile.

Must Have Singles for Your DIY Essential Oils Travel Kit

I’ve found that 1mL bottles work great for traveling with single oils or blends. I can pack a little of everything I want to bring instead of only being able to take a couple full sized bottles.

Lavender

The first oil to go into my DIY essential oils travel kit is lavender, which I’m sure comes without surprise. Lavender can be used to ease a sunburn, help you fall asleep in an unfamiliar place, calm the travel nerves, and freshen up a room. This is my absolute must have oil when traveling.

Frankincense

This is another oil that is a must have in the DIY essential oils travel kit. Frankincense is good for anything skin related and supports the immune system. It works wonders for minor cuts and scrapes as well.  If you have looked at any of my other recipes, you will know that I use a lot of frankincense.

Peppermint

Peppermint gets included for two main reasons: headaches and upset tummies. Motion sickness, food poisoning, or simply eating too much all call or a little peppermint in the belly button, diffused, or both. When on the road it is difficult to remember to drink enough water and get enough sleep. Both of those can cause headaches, as can being in close quarters with some family members. Taking a little peppermint in your DIY essential oil travel kit will help relieve your headache no matter the cause.

Tea Tree

Tea tree essential oil is purifying, so it works to clean  anything while over the road. This includes the air. Get rid of a stinky hotel room, diffuse or spray a little tea tree oil. It also works on hands after touching things like the gas pump.

Eucalyptus

When traveling, nobody wants the sniffles. Changes in climate and plants can come with allergies or even the sniffles. I prefer to avoid both, so it’s eucalyptus to the rescue. When it comes to opening airways nothing beats a little eucalyptus.

Must Have Rollers for Your DIY Essential Oils Travel Kit

When traveling, I prefer to make up some roller bottles ahead of time. This way I’m prepared when the time comes. This makes them easy to use in the car as well. Being prediluted has its benefits. These recipes are for 10mL roller bottles.

Itch Relief

Add 3 drops each of peppermint, tea tree, bergamot, basil, and eucalyptus. Top off with a carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil. This itch relief roller can be applied directly to bug bites or bothersome rashes.

Sleep Support

Add 3 drops of lavender and one drop of each frankincense and vetiver. Then fill the roller up with a carrier oil. Apply this sleep support blend to the spine, wrists, and feet.

Immunity Boost

Put 3 drops of Protect, 2 drops of frankincense, and 1 drop of tea tree to the roller. Finish it off with a carrier oil. The immunity boost roller can be used on the feet, wrists, and belly button.

Headache Relief

For a headache roller, add 5 drops each of peppermint, frankincense, and lavender to a roller bottle before filling the bottle up with a carrier oil. The headache relief roller is best applied to areas of tension. For me this means the temples and base of the skull.

Skin Troubles

The skin troubles roller works wonders for breakouts. Combine 5 drops each of tea tree, lavender, and frankincense then top it off with a carrier oil. As soon as I notice a bump, I dab the roller on it. This reduces the inflammation and typically stops a breakout.

Inhalers

Inhalers allow you to enjoy the benefit of essential oils without bothering those around you. This makes them perfect for planes or carried around amusement parks. The best part is that they don’t leak.

Travel Diffuser

A small diffuser is a blessing when you are used to using one daily at home. Anybody else need lavender oil diffusing to fall asleep?  I like this one because it fits in the cup holder of my car, so I can diffuse it while I drive.

Fractionated Coconut Oil

Since I pack undiluted oils, I need something to dilute them with. Often I will just put drops of oils in my hands. Other times, I’ll add a few rollers just in case I need to whip one up for something unexpected. I’ve had good luck storing the fractionated coconut oil in a small travel bottle designed for shampoo.
