I Need a Mentor
When I first started my journey into homesteading, I remember thinking that I needed a mentor. Then I had a better idea, I needed to go to homesteading school and take a homesteading class. After a quick search, I discovered that it was almost possible to go to homesteading school. There were lots of homesteading classes that covered just about anything you wanted to know. Plus there were some opportunities to be an apprentice on a working homestead.

What Can You Learn from a Homesteading Class?
There is a homesteading class for every aspect of the homestead. Permaculture, chicken keeping, natural cleaning, sourdough, homemade dairy, home management, regenerative farming, you name it there is a class.
I’ve personally taken classes on fermenting, home baking, budgeting, and herbal remedies. I can tell you that each one has been a wealth of information. In fact, I regularly go back to the courses to check something. I like rewatching the lessons because I pick up on something new each time.
Is a Homesteading Class Worth It?
I’m sure not every homesteading class is carefully crafted and worth the price tag, but so far I am happy with each of my courses.
If you are looking for a good course, start by looking at the courses offered by bloggers you already trust. If they aren’t offering classes go to the big names in the homesteading blogger community. Most of them do offer classes.
What Homesteading Class Do I Recommend?
Homesteading Family offers a variety of classes. They’ve produced my favorite homesteading courses. They have classes on homemade dairy, canning, herbal medicine, fermenting, baking, home management, permaculture, and egg preservation.
Jill Winger offers some classes over on the Prairie Homestead. She offers canning and heritage cooking. I’ve taken The Recession Proof Homestead.
Abundance+ is a newcomer to the homesteading class world. Justin Rhodes and Joel Salatin worked together to create classes on chickens, pigs, gardening, permaculture, and many other homesteading topics. This is a membership based service, so you will not have lifetime access unless you pay for a lifetime.
Joel Salatin produced a course called Farm Like a Lunatic. It is expensive, but it will take you from 0 to 100 with practices that are good for you and the land.
School of Traditional Skills is a compilation of homesteading classes. Again it is subscription based. They bring in experts to teach each homesteading class. Each month new classes are added and the library of courses is growing.
Sometimes your local extension office will also offer classes. Be sure to check these out too. My mom took a gardening course lately and said there were a lot of things that she learned despite years of gardening experience.
