Take a Load Off Your Feet
Whenever the weather gets warmer, the toes come out. I have always ran around barefoot and have no intentions of stopping anytime soon. My Mama had a rule that to go outside you had to put your shoes on or take your socks off. I always took my socks off. My husband laughs that I come home and take my shoes off to go outside. That means that I have a lifetime of calluses on the soles of my feet. I am convinced that the bottoms of my feet are equivalent to the soles of a shoe. Though functional, it isn’t so cute to wear sandals when people can see your callused heels.
My mom refuses to wear sandals until her feet are sandal feet. This means that her calluses are gone, her toes are painted, and her heels feel like a baby’s bottom. Then and only then is she willing to wear sandals out in public. She’d be ashamed to wear sandals with my leathery soles. But to each his own.
Despite our differences in summer footwear, this homemade foot soak is enjoyed by all feet. I enjoy using this soak on a Saturday night after going barefoot in the garden and yard all day. Gotta have clean feet for church on Sunday. It won’t last long, so thank goodness this is such an easy recipe to whip up. My mom enjoys a good long foot soak whenever her feet start to look like mine. This soak helps soften up the skin so she can sand off any dead skin or calluses. She enjoys soft, pretty feet. I enjoy clean, callused feet. The homemade foot soak works for both!

About the Homemade Foot Soak
Soaking your feet in saltwater can help alleviate aches and reduce inflammation. Salt water is a natural antiseptic which is perfect for any scratches or scrapes you may have acquired running around barefoot. Epsom salt can help loosen up dead skin and can help prevent any sort of weird foot funk you might have picked up along the way.
Baking soda and vinegar also help to loosen up dead skin and reduce itching. I don’t know about you, but I get lots of bug bites on my feet. The homemade foot soak helps to ease the itch, especially chigger bites. Much like the salt, the baking soda and vinegar will help to clean your feet as well.
The coconut oil will help to moisturize your clean little feet. The frankincense and lavender essential oils are great for the skin and will help with dry skin and cracked heels. Tea tree essential oil has antiseptic properties as well. I find this combination to leave my feet as soft as they ever will be unless I learn to wear shoes.

Using the Homemade Foot Soak
Start by adding this foot soak to a tub of about two gallons of warm water along with ⅛ cup apple cider vinegar. Then sit back and let those tootsies soak. I suggest letting them soak for at least half an hour. Normally I will do so while watching TV and only remember to take them out when the water gets cold.
When you are done soaking, I highly recommend this Foot Butter and some fuzzy socks!
Foot Soak Oil Blends
For a soothing foot soak, use 15 drops of lavender essential oil. Lavender is great for your skin, but the aroma is also calming for your mind.
Eucalyptus and peppermint oils can be used to create a detoxifying foot soak. Use 8 drops of each oil in the foot soak mix.
If you are looking for a blend specifically for cracked heels try combining 5 drops each of lemon, frankincense, and peppermint. Plus two drops of oregano essential oil.
Our feet have a very important job that can sometimes be exhausting. To help relieve any aches and pains that come from such an important job use 8 drops of peppermint and 8 drops of lavender. This can help with muscle soreness and aches.
