Floor Cleaner & Glitter for Christmas
Many years ago, my mom presented us with floor cleaner, glitter, and clear glass ornaments. I thought she might be crazy when she told us that we were making ornaments with floor cleaner. A little crafting, lots of mess, and many memories later, we had beautiful ornaments to hang on the tree and give as gifts to the grandparents.
For years, a family friend that I called Scary Teri, hosted a Christmas craft day for the kids in her life. These DIY glitter Christmas ornaments were the foundation for many cute ornaments. We turned lightbulb shaped ornaments into Rudolph. We transformed the red balls into Santa’s belly. They always turned out so cute that you actually wanted them on the tree.

How to Make DIY Glitter Christmas Ornaments
Supplies
Clear ornaments (glass, plastic, or acrylic will work)
Instructions
- Start by pouring a small amount of Mop & Glow into the clear ornament.
- Gently swirl it around the inside of the ornament. If you shake it then bubbles will form and leave funny spots in the ornament.
- Pour the Mop & Glow out. I like to pour it into a measuring cup so that I can use it on the next one.
- Dump some fine glitter into the ornament. Put your thumb or finger over the hole and give it a good shake.
- Pour out the extra glitter. If the ornaments are all one color you could reuse this glitter for the next one. If you are doing multiple colors, you could always use the mixed up leftovers to make a rainbow one.
- Place the DIY glitter Christmas ornaments upside down to dry. By placing the hole down it will allow any extra Mop & Glow to drip out.
- Once it dries, or about 12 hours later, put the lid back on the ornament. It’s ready to hang on the Christmas tree, attached to a package, or wrap up as a gift.

Variations of DIY Glitter Christmas Ornaments
These DIY glitter Christmas ornaments look great as they are or they can be jazzed up a bit.
A very popular way to do this is by adding vinyl to the outside. Using a Cricut you could cut out cute Christmas sayings, the year, or festive silhouettes. I’ve seen some very cute green ornaments turned into the Grinch. Red disks can turn into Santa Cams, which make a cute DIY gift for kids. Brown glitter ornaments can be transformed into gingerbread men or reindeer.
Another option would be to add a bit of paint to the outside. In my experience, paint markers work best. I used white glitter ornaments with my preschool class. When they were finished, I added a snowman face. It makes for a very simple gift for kids to make and give.
