Podcast Junkie
I love a good podcast. Something about having a thirty minute drive to everywhere made me fall in love. I use them for language learning, devotionals, and homesteading. If you get in my Jeep, you can count on hearing a podcast or audiobook going. Brushing my teeth? Well that’s podcast time too. When I go walking around the block, I know I’m finished when the podcast stops. It’s an addiction that I’ll accept.

Best Homesteading Podcast #1: Simple Farmhouse Life
This homesteading podcast is done by Lisa Bass. She blogs over at Farmhouse on Boone. She’s a mom of 6 (soon to be 7) kiddos. They live in Missouri on a 7 acre homestead. Lisa talks about all things sourdough and from scratch cooking. She will throw in other topics such as blogging, mom life, thrifting, and farmhouse life.
I could listen to Lisa talk all day, her voice is so soothing, as is her background music. She talks about a range of interesting topics so it never gets boring. It feels like I’m sitting down and talking to a friend when I listen to the Simple Farmhouse Life podcast. It is, in my opinion, the BEST homesteading podcast of 2021.
Best Homesteading Podcast #2: Old Fashioned on Purpose
Here is another blogger created podcast. This one is done by Jill Winger, who is the creator behind The Prairie Homestead. She talks about homesteading and homesteading business. Her podcasts are very thorough. She covers the basics of homesteading like keeping chickens, gardening, preservation, and anything else you’d like to know. This podcast is perfect for the beginning homesteader or somebody wishing to make homesteading their full time job.
The first time I listened to one of Jill’s podcasts, her intro caught my attention. She said that if you think you could have been best friends with Laura Ingalls then you were in the right place. She couldn’t have been more correct. As an avid Little House fan, I took her word for it and never turned back. I listen to the Old Fashioned On Purpose podcast to satisfy my pioneer spirit.
Best Homesteading Podcast #3: Wise Traditions
The Wise Traditions podcast is mostly about food. Not a great one to listen to hungry, but any other time is good. This homesteading podcast is put out by the Weston A. Price Foundation, which is the basis for the Nourishing Traditions book. Each episode has a guest being interviewed about nourishing food, holistic medicine, or natural living. If you enjoy the Nourishing Traditions book, this podcast is worth a listen.
These episodes are usually a bit longer than the other podcasts on this list. Some of the ideas seem a bit out there, so I pick and choose which episodes I listen to. Many recent episodes are about Covid, but scroll down and you will find other topics as well. I’ve found out some eye opening things about farming practices and food labels.
Best Homesteading Podcast #4: Pantry Chat
The Pantry Chat is presented by a husband and wife pair that are simply phenomenal. Josh and Carolyn live on a 40 acre homestead in Idaho. They run the blog Homesteading Family. They cover all sorts of homesteading topics. Cooking, fermenting, canning, gardening, butchering, animal husbandry. The Pantry Chat comes out monthly.
I could listen to Carolyn talk all day. She has a mom voice and something about it is soothing and comforting. I’ll listen to her talk about topics beyond my interest just to listen to her talk. Each episode starts with chit chat about what each of them are working on around the homestead. Then they get into the topic. It’s like sitting around the table having dinner with family. They are a wealth of knowledge and great teachers. This one is worth a listen no matter what stage of this homesteading journey you are on.
