Looking for a snack to please a crowd? Try a batch of these seasoned oyster crackers. They never disappoint. The only problem is that they won’t last long if your family is anything like mine. My friends used to beg me for them when I brought them for lunch at school. They take five minutes to make and the kids can help whip up a batch. Seriously simple snack. Dump. Shake. Enjoy!

Can You Pack Extra Seasoned Oyster Crackers?
My Mama Susie found this seasoned oyster cracker recipe in a church cookbook many years ago. It has been a long standing family favorite ever since. We make lots of them around the holidays. They are a perfect appetizer and they’re always a hit.
Now that we are older, she makes two batches. One is regular, which is my favorite. And the other is spicy, which is my dad’s favorite. The only difference is a little bit of red pepper flakes. I’m sharing the basic recipe, but go ahead and add some red pepper if you prefer a spicy cracker. I’m told they are delicious too.
When I was a little girl, my mom always packed my lunch for school. When we had them, she would pack seasoned oyster crackers. My friends had never had them, but wanted to try them. So I gave away a few of my precious crackers. Of course they loved them and wanted more. After a couple of days of giving away all my crackers, I finally asked my mom if she would pack two bags of them. One for me and another for my friends.
When my brother sees oyster crackers on the counter, he inhales them. Literally. He gets a handful and sucks them up like a vacuum cleaner. When I lived at home, I’d pack enough for a week of lunches as soon as they were ready. Then I would hide the baggies. Otherwise they would all get eaten before they ever made it to my lunchbox. The joys of having a teenage brother. Although now in his twenties he still inhales them like a vacuum, but now I have my own house so there’s no need to hide them.

Seasoned Oyster Cracker Recipe
Ingredients
2 packages (20 oz total) oyster crackers
1 teaspoon dill
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon lemon pepper
1 package or 3 tablespoons of dry ranch mix
1 cup olive oil
Instructions
- Put all of the ingredients in a plastic bag.
- Give the bag a good shake, so that the crackers are well coated.
- They are best after they sit in the bag for about an hour before eating. That doesn’t often happen. I consider that first handful to be quality control.
- If you are feeling fancy, you can bake them for a few minutes on low. That rarely happens at our house. They are too delicious to wait.

Ideas for Sharing the Seasoned Oyster Crackers
As mentioned above, these are commonly served when people come to visit. They look pretty in a nice dish. Know that people will need something to wipe their hands after enjoying a handful.
I’ve also given seasoned oyster crackers as gifts and not just at the lunch table at school. For those times when you need a little something to give at Christmas, fill a half pint jar up with seasoned oyster crackers. Put a fabric circle between the lid and ring or tie some pretty ribbon around the ring. They look pretty in the jar. It’s a cheap, quick Christmas gift for those you need to give a little something. Plus it’s something the person will use and enjoy instead of tossing it in the donation box.

I really like the oyster crackers from Aldi. They are a bit larger and cheaper.
